Rosehip hissed, the yelp of Moonbeam reverberating on the walls of the cave loudly, startling both Goldie and eirself, “Moonbeam!” she yelled out, frantically searching, looking for where the sound came from. Goldie gasped, their fur standing up as they quickly ran towards the general location of the sound, Rosehip on her tail with equal fright.
“We’re coming! Moonbeam?” Goldie yelled out, loudest as she could as the two came across the scene of the crime, a clear struggle having happened but no sign of Moonbeam or the perp. “Moonbeam…?”
Rosehip sighed, worried and confused, “We need to split up, look for any clues… Keep within the boundaries of the block” she stressed, already plotting where to search, her ears high up in alert, hoping to hear the faintest of sounds, only picking up soft trickles of cave water and droplets.
“I’ll search the building over here, look for any footsteps, we’ll meet back up at this site.” Goldie finalized, already making their way over to the designated building across from the scuffle.
“Will do…” Rose nodded, and with that the two set off.
Rosehip walked over to the opposite building, noticing weird lumps of what looks to be bell peppers and some kind of mauled bits of fabric. She shuttered and hurried up with her search, looking over the big room of the first floor.
A quick scuttle of feet startled her, “Hello?!” Rose yelped, turning around quickly to try and catch a glimpse of the being, noticing a small figure as she nearly screamed, backing out and exiting the building, launching herself over to the designated site.
Bent over, she gasped and tried to catch her breath, her heart beating in her ears. She sat down and anxiously looked behind her to see if it followed her, and to her relief it had not.
Several minutes passed before Goldie came back out of her building, looking frustrated. At the sight, Rosehip shouted, “Goldie! You will not believe what I just saw…”
In confusion, Goldie perked up as Rose rambled on, getting a bit carried away. Several more minutes passed before Goldie held up her paw and hushed Rose, ears turned to a sudden noise heard, much like the sound Rose had heard.
“Just like that!” Rose yelled, backing up quickly back towards the campfire, tugging incessantly on the guppymander’s arm, leaving no room for hesitation. The two very quickly made their way back to the campsite just outside of the city as they noticed multiple odd creatures having lived in the city.
Rose shuttered, stressing about the lack of Moonbeam, “Do you think that took her..??”
“Hell no! They’re like two inches tall,” Goldie joked, trying to relieve the stress as they set up the fire from before, a bright light quickly followed by warmth. Rose settled down next to the fire along with Goldie.
“We should get some sleep.. It’s been far too long and we’re both exhausted.” Goldie suggested, already feeling sluggish with exhaustion, today’s expedition taking a large toll on the group.
Rose and Goldie both quickly succumbed to sleep, the city having quieted down to likely do the same.
A few hours later, a large sound of footsteps were heard, making Rosehip shoot up, the back of her fur standing up tall. The movement of Rose woke the guppymander up as they also stood up quick.
In front of them stood a very large canine, with clouds and what looks to be a halo around them -him- as he introduced himself. “I am Tempest, your friend mentioned you two would be here. Follow me.” And with that, he turned around, leaving no room for argument as he continued towards the city.
“Wait, wait, friend? You mean Moonbeam?” Goldie questioned before a black muzzle was placed on her face along with Rose’s.
“Do not speak, I am short on time.” Tempest growled out, glaring at the two before tugging them along, his threatening aura prompted them both to very quickly follow should the canine snap at them further.
The three continued upon a deeper city, one with lights and power. Tempest led them to where he was holding Moonbeam, whom of which also had a muzzle on. Goldie tilted her head at Moonbeam who just shrugged in response, clearly just as confused as the other two.
Once satisfied with them all in one area, Tempest removed Moonbeam’s muzzle, prompting kit to stay still and answer his questions.
“Who.. What are you?” He interrogated, a sharp gaze upon her small feline form, making her shrink back in fear.
“I am Moonbeam, the leader of Port Borealis. I am a Spacecat, along with Rosehip -” she pointed to Rosehip, “- and Goldie, who is a guppymander.” She finished, looking up at Tempest with an inquisitive look of her own. “And who are you?”
Tempest settled, answering shortly, “I am Tempest, the leader of our species, Cirrocanius.”
“Where are your people? What.. happened here?”
“We… our species is suffering a nuclear fallout. Our planet is becoming uninhabitable by the minute.” Tempest finished, looking away in shame and fear.
“We can help! I own the Port Borealis, a place your people can go…” Moonbeam offered as Tempest looked back at her in disbelief before lowering his head.
“I will think about it. For now, why are you here?”
“Our ship’s fuel tank became empty much sooner than we expected, and we landed here in an emergency. We came here looking for fuel…” She detailed, looking a little lost as she recounted how this whole situation happened.
“We can look in the power plant, there should be plenty of fuel there. For now, your other two friend’s can stay here. Do be warned of the sick, there’s.. Not much we can do to help them.” Tempest mentioned, his voice low with grief.
“We can help them! We have a medical bay,” Moonbeam shot up, worry etching her features, looking towards Rosehip and Goldie, who managed to remove their muzzles while the two leaders discussed among themselves.
“I can help get them back to our ship,” Rosehip agreed, “we have emergency medical supplies there, should we find fuel.”
Tempest nodded, standing up straight and pointing to a massive building with caved in walls, “That is the power plant. Moonbeam, you follow me. You two, go help my people.. Please.” He looked on, grief once more filling his eyes, looking back at the two felines tasked.
They both nodded, Goldie standing up as well, taking a look towards the city and muttering to herself as she noted the sickly canids, definitely radiation poisoning.
As Moonbeam and Tempest set off with a goodbye, Rosehip took to herself, walking up to the most lucid Cirrocanius, speaking up, “Hello, my name is Rosehip and I am here to help you, can you follow me, please?
The canid in question perked up, looking surprised before nodding hurriedly, standing up on weak legs and following her to a clear spot on the ground, covered in a warm medical blanket. Rosehip pulled out a roll of relatively clean bandage and motioned for their arm, which had a large partially healed gash in it.
“This is going to sting,” Ey warned, waiting for confirmation. Once the Cirrocanius nodded, ey carefully cleaned the wound with a wet cloth, the lack of alcohol will have to do as she quickly wrapped up the wound and tied it off.
As hours passed by, a large group of the canids got their wounds mostly checked out, and grouped by most critical condition.
“Hey, Goldie?” Rose meowed, “Do you know how long it’ll be before we can get these guys on the ship? I don’t want to leave them in the cold just yet…”
“I’m not too sure, honestly, it shouldn’t be long. Once Moonbeam get’s the fuel it should be smooth sailing, the ship needs very little fuel to warm itself up and unlock the emergency medical supplies.” Goldie offered, tying off the last of the Cirrocanius’s bandage as they took another sweep over the city section, many more to come with dwindling supplies.
Rose nodded in acknowledgement, staring longingly at the power plant. She hoped the two leaders would get back soon, they were very quickly running out of supplies and there were many more canids to get to.
Rose and Goldie took a long look at each other before nodding, combining their medical supplies before setting off to tend to the rest of the most urgent cases.
