Ika wandered the halls of her house. She was bored. Her parents were out for the next few hours, and Lura was nowhere to be seen. What to do, what to do…

I could call Matcha and tell him about my new bug collection, but I don’t want to disturb him. I could look for worms in the yard... No, it’s not worm weather. It’s too cold to walk to the library too. AAAAUGHHH what should I do…

CRASH!

Her thoughts were interrupted by a loud sound downstairs. Ika scurried down into the dining room to find Lura on the floor, a stool next to a high shelf filled with crafting supplies. Oh no.

“Are you ok?! You know you’re not supposed to use the stool without Mom or Mama around!” Ika helped her sister up.

Lura shook out her fur. “I knowwww, but I can’t wait for them! I wanna make them a gift for Peace and Love Day! But I’m not tall enough to reach the crafting shelf…” She looked up at the boxes longingly. It was clear to Ika that her younger sister wasn’t going to back down from this idea.

“Ok, Ok. I’ll get the boxes down. Just let me supervise you.”

“I’m better with the tools than you are.”

“Yeah, yeah. I just don’t want Mama on my back.”

Lura laughed. Then she thought for a minute. Then she grinned.

“What if I showed you how to make a plushie? We can make matching plushies for our Moms! Wouldn’t that be super cute?”

Ika looked hesitant. “I feel like I’d prick my paws a lot…”

“Not if you use thimbles!”

“Ok, I’ll give it a shot! Lead the way.”

Ika got the boxes down from the shelf and Lura spread the supplies on the table: cloth, needles, thread, stuffing, markers, and scissors. She then divided them into equal amounts for her and her sister.

Ika stared at the green cloth. Then she looked to Lura. She was using the scissors to cut her pink cloth into an octopus shape. She did it so flawlessly. It never failed to amaze Ika. Her sister was so cool. Ok, it was her turn. Picking up the scissors, she tried to cut the cloth into a squid shape. It came out…lumpy, but it looked mostly like a squid.

Lura looked at Ika’s shape and laughed.

“That looks just like Mom! A big mess!”

Ika giggled too. “Yeah, you’re right. And yours is so trim, just like Mama! Ok, now what?”

“Ok, now we sew them mostly shut, but leave a gap for the stuffing. Then we’ll draw faces with markers. You should put the thimbles on now.”

Ika did so. She then followed Lura’s movements. It went pretty well, and they both left gaps at the top of their plushies. Then they grabbed the markers and drew faces on the fronts. Lura drew a smiling face, and Ika drew a neutral face. Just like their parents.

“Ok, stuffing time!”

That was done quickly, and the sisters sewed the plushies shut.

Lura and Ika looked at the results. Lura’s plushie was clearly more neat, but Ika’s plush had a messy charm to it that made the two of them giggle non-stop. Lura clapped her paws together.

“Mom and Mama are gonna LOVE these! Now let’s put them in their room!”

Once that was done, the kittens lay down on the couch together. They were exhausted. But they were also content.

Lura looked to her older sister. “You’re not bad at plushie making, let’s do it again sometime!”

“Yeah, it was pretty fun. Hey, I heard about a show about a blue Cirrocanius puppy that my friends like. Wanna watch some of it?”

“Oh, yeah, I think it was called…Indigoy? Let’s see if it’s on.”

The duo spent the rest of the evening in front of the Tv, eagerly awaiting the return of their unaware parents. Their reactions were gonna be priceless.
