A Mistake

Jake wasn't happy he had to go on an expedition with Air as much as the head Biologist was a genius when it came to plants, he also wasn't the best to talk to, it would be a long trip. 

Jake walks up to the ship they were designated to take, Dens scanners have found unidentified fauna on a planet 3 solar systems away from their current position, so of course Air had to go document these new Plants.
Jake grumbled as they worked on making sure everything was good to go for their trip, while they complained in their head the entire time.
After a while of Jake just quietly getting ready, Air and Apollo walk into the hanger as well, Air wearing a Harness on which a big bag was secured. “Our departure time is in 5 minutes. I hope you are ready.” Said Air in his usual emotionless tone making Jakes bad mood even more sour, “tsk dont worry im done” they practically hiss at him, they could feel the electricity in their space dust almost rise to the surface, deep breaths Jake, they reminded themself to stay calm as Air walks into the spaceship.

“Hey don't let it get to you, You know he doesn't mean it” says Apollo to Jake apologetically, he was Airs fiance how she got along with Air was a mystery to Jake. “Thank you Apollo I will try my best, just hope the expedition doesn't take too long,” they answer and give Apollo a soft smile, “well I gotta go otherwise Air is gonna chew my ear off the entire trip with the Importances of punctuality.” with that they turn around and walk into the Spaceship hearing Apollo yelling “good luck!!” Before the doors to the cockpit close. 

They had been flying for quite a while now as suddenly the cockpit lights turned red “What the??” Jake asks as they look around and see the fuel tank sign on the control panel blink red. “Shit” they mutter, they were so busy complaining to themself they must have forgotten to check the Fuel. “Whats going on?” Air chimes in from his seat behind Jake, “well, “ Jake pauses not sure if they wanted to tell Air they made the most basic mistake every baby pilot gets taught to never do…forgetting to check the fuel tank, “I might have not checked the fuel tank…we are on emergency energy we gotta land on the nearest planet and get fule there” they explained.
Jake didn't need to turn around to know what kind of Expression Air was making and before Air could start complaining Jake put the Ship into landing mode to being on Emergency energy the entrances into the atmosphere of the planet was rough a lot of the books and equipment fell out of the shelves. As they finally landed, Air sits back up and shakes itself. “this is just great” he mutters to himself as Jake themself gets up, “yeah yeah I take full blame but complaining won't get us off this planet we gotta find a fuel source, the Quicker the better” they say and for once Air doesn't complain he just says “ agree.”
Jake opens the door to the cockpit to be met with an Icy cold wind whipping into their face, they hold a paw over their eyes to shield them from the wind and look out into the frozen fields in front of them. There were no plants here, no signs of life, just Ice and snow.
“great finding a fuel source here is going to be though” Jake murmurs and looks at the Smaller cat that just pushed past him and looks back at him as he walks into the snow “ Complaining won't help now” Air says calmly “ the quicker we find a fuel source the quicker we can leave, Communications devices won't work in a blizzard like this so that is our best shot to get out of this mess.”
Jake blinks, they didn't think Air would be this calm about the situation “Yeah,” they say “ yeah your right let's go” they follow.

Soon Jake's paws become numb from the coldness of the snow but they quickly warms them up with their electricity.

They don't know how long they wandered on through the blizzard but it was starting to get even darker. The planet must be getting into its night cycle. It was already hard enough to see through the snow storm but in the dark they wouldn't be able to find anything.
“We should find a Place to set up camp. We won't find anything in this Blizzard if it's also dark!” They yell over the sound of the wind and turn around to Air, only to realize air wasnt behind them. Jake looks around and then they mentally kick themself, of course they could use their electricity to keep them decently warm but Air couldnt how could they be so careless “Air?!” they yell and runs the way back they came trying to move quickly to not lose their paw prints in the new layer of snow, a few minutes of backtracking they found air laying in the snow already covered with a Blanket of snow if his Spacedust wasn't black Jack probably wouldn't have found it. They quickly pull Air out of the snow and throws him onto his back. The Biologist was dangerously cold. Hypothermia Jake thinks worriedly they gotta warm him up and quickly. 

Jake quickly runs through the snow trying to find a place where they were at least somewhat protected from the cold finally they finds a cave and quickly puts Air down on the ground they opens Air bag and pulls out a blanket, now Jake was actually happy that Air was always so over prepared they always was annoyed at the Smaller cat always taking ages to prepare or find things in his back. They quickly cover Air in the blanket and Run outside again to find something to build a fire with. Jake was worried they didn't want to leave air alone in this state but they gotta warm him up and a Fire would do just that. 

After 30 minutes of searing Jake finally returns to the cave with enough wood to start a fire. Air was still in the same spot they left him in “Air..” Jake says worriedly they put a paw on Airs head to feel how cold he was, It was still cold so Jake removes the paw and unties the wood that they tied to their back it falls to the ground with a loud thump. Jake quickly gathers all the wood and puts them over each other to make a good campfire with one spark of his electricity. They set the wood aflame then they softly Pick up Air and move it closer to the fire. 

Jake then sits down close to Air, no matter how hard they tried they couldn't relax as they were constantly checking on Air. they might have complained about the Head biologist alot but they didn't want him to die… Maybe it was their fault that they and Air never got along; they never thought about trying to understand the other. Jake sighs and stares into the fire not only did they forget to perform the most important task of a Pilot now they also got one of their colleges almost killed, not sure what else to do they pull out theyre cominaction devices and tries to funk the ‘intergalactic research facility of flora and Fauna’ praying Den would pick up but they were only greeted with a static noise, Air was right with such a blizzard the communications devices wouldn't get through at all. They put the deceive back into their pouch and stare at the fire again.

Jake doesn't know how much time has passed as Air next to them softly moves. “Air?!” they Ask quickly, turning around to look at the smaller space cat. 

Air looked tired but he finally was awake. He didn't say anything, just nodded.
“You should rest more,” Jake says as they walk closer to Air, “I promise we will get out of here tomorrow” They don't know why they said that somehow he could just sense that Air was scared so they lay down next to Air feeling that his body warmed up quite a lot so they let out a relieved sigh.

Yes Tomorrow they would make sure both of them got off this Planet and Jake also makes a promise to himself “I will start to get to know Air better.”
