Proxy and Feral Child try to be Doctors
Proxy and Rebel stepped into the worn-down city. It was quite sad, to be honest. So many Cirros in the streets, so many illnesses, so much trash. It was vital that the two of them helped out.
Earlier, while exploring the tunnels in the snowy planet, Proxy had come across a large cloud dog called a Cirrocanius. This one, named Tempest, explained that his kind were dying of radiation poisoning and desperately needed to leave the planet. Proxy had agreed to help if they could find fuel to repair their ship. They couldn’t just ignore the pleas for help. It was against their entire mindset. Rebel on the other hand whined a little, but that was quickly stopped with a cold glare from Proxy and Tempest.
“Alright. Here we are. Try to make yourselves useful while I investigate the power plant’s entrance. We don’t need more injuries, we need less. If you need supplies, just check the stores. Our economy is nonexistent at this point so don’t bother with money.” With that, Tempest headed out. Proxy walked to the closest Cirro they saw, a dark blue one seemingly covered in patches of ice. He seemed to be doodling in the dusty street, but looked up as he saw the green cat approach them.
“Oh, hello. What do you want? I’m a bit busy here.”
Proxy frowned a little. “I’m here to help you with that wound on your leg. Seems to me that it was burned and not properly covered. Thankfully, I have friends at home who have knowledge on these matters. Stay still.” They then lifted up the Cirro’s wounded hind leg. Definitely infected. Thank goodness Firefly taught them basic first aid. They then looked to Rebel standing a bit away.
“Go look for cold water and a clean cloth. And don’t dawdle. Do pick up anything else you deem useful though.” Rebel nodded and scurried into the streets. Proxy then looked back at the Cirro. “What’s your name?”
“Ah, I am Yukio. I was a famous artist among the Cirrocanius. But once the radiation struck, I was forced to abandon my craft for our safety. My one dream is to one day paint again. Speaking of, your colors are fascinating, such a nice shade of green! And your right eye-”
“Yeah yeah, it’s weird looking. Let’s not focus on that now. But I can tell you that if we find fuel, we can bring you to a place where you can paint all you want, with a lot of ‘pretty’ colors. Just stay still while we help this wound. How did you even get it?”
“Ehh, I was trying to cook some ramen, but I spilled the boiling water on me. Then I scraped the wound on rough wood when I fell. Didn’t feel like bothering others for help, it didn’t seem that bad.”
…That’s a feeling I know too well. “Well, it is pretty bad. Hopefully Rebel will be back soon.”
As if on queue, the small pink cat came running to Proxy’s side, with a box of things in tow. Upon peeking into the box, it was indeed full of medical supplies and other useful equipment. “Where did you find all this?”
“Oh I snooped in some houses!”
“WHAT? Why would you…oh whatever, they’re leaving soon anyway. Thanks, kid.” Proxy pulled out a water bottle and washcloth. After wetting the towel, they laid it on Yukio’s leg. The Cirro yelped at the touch, but a glare from Proxy kept them still. After a moment, Proxy removed the towel and wrapped a bandage around the leg.
“Ok. DO NOT remove the bandage until we get to Port Borealis. This is a temporary fix, you need an actual medic to fix it fully. And uh, please be careful the next time you cook ramen.” Proxy then left Yukio to their own business.
Looking around for Rebel, Proxy spotted her chatting with a fluffy brown Cirro. Heading closer, they noticed a large gash in their shoulder. Ouch.
“Hey, I’m Proxy. What’s with this gash?”
The Cirro gave a small smile. “Hey there. I’m Eventide, and I dunno, dude. I was just chatting with another Cirro when they got all crazy and ripped a chunk outta me. Not a big deal, though. I’ve had worse.”
Rebel gave a toothy grin. “Oh that’s gonna leave such a NASTY scar! So cool!”
“REBEL!” Proxy scolded.
“Whaaaaat? I’m not lying!”
“Hey hey, it’s all good. If anything I could use a snack right now, not much to eat when the stores are full of radiation y’know.” Eventide laughed at that.
“Well, I know I found some dry ramen packets in a house earlier. Would that work?” Rebel asked.
“Oh yeah, defo.”
“Ok Green Bean, you give this guy the ramen, while I treat him” Rebel then pulled out a toy stethoscope. The shiny cheap plastic made Proxy grimace.”
“No, you give him the food. This wound needs serious disinfecting.”
“Oooooh, does that mean gunk is gonna come out? I wanna see that!”
“...Please just do what I say. Ew.”
After a rather gross cleaning and wrapping (and crunching), the duo left Eventide to his own devices. They were about to look for more patients when Tempest appeared behind them.
“Hm. You two are quite handy. I thank you for your help. I have found a safe entrance into the power plant. We should head there as soon as possible.”
Proxy nodded. “Are you ready to go, kid?”
“OH HELL YES!”
Tempest gave a small frown, but nodded.
“Let us head in then.”
