Baking Shenanigans

Sleet stepped onto her front step. She had stayed after school today to work on a project, and couldn’t wait to finally relax in her room. But upon opening the door, she was greeted with a chaotic sight.

“HI SLEET! CAN YOU GIVE US A HAND HERE?!” Twilight yelled, trying to organize a pile of ingredients on the kitchen counter. Sleet could see egg cartons, milk jugs, bags of flour and sugar, and a ton of decorations. What on earth’s name was going on!?

Nightshade approached their sibling, seeing the confusion on her face.

“Sup, Sleet. Hemlock had the idea to make our parents some cookies for Peace and Love Day. Wanna help?” They looked over at their twin brother, who was reading a list of baking instructions. He was reading it upside down.

Sleet let out a long sigh. “If I don’t help you guys, you’re gonna blow up the house. Did you ask Mama Petal for help with any of this?”

“Uh, no? This is supposed to be a surprise!!!” Twilight nearly dropped an egg on the floor while trying to crack it.

Moonbeam help me.

“Alright, let’s give it a shot. And Hemlock, please flip what you’re reading, I don’t wanna get food poisoning.”

Sleet approached Akira, who was fiddling with the oven. Akira gave her an apologetic look.

“I tried to talk them out of it, but I was outweighed. Sorry.”

Sleet shook her head. “Just help me keep them in line.”

After some observation, Akira preheated the oven to 350 degrees. She then looked over to Twilight, who was trying to pour flour in a mixing bowl. His paws were covered in the white powder, and upon pouring the flour, his face got covered too in the resulting cloud.

“AHH, could someone help me with the milk? I think I’m gonna sneeze.”

Sleet rushed over and pushed Twilight away from the food. She then grabbed the milk carton and measured one cup. With Nightshade’s help they managed to mix a solid cookie dough. Twilight then returned.

“OOOOH, can I try a bite of dough? Please please PLEASEEE???”

“No, we need to roll this into balls first. And you need to wash your paws.” Sleet grabbed a chunk of dough and began rolling it. She then put the ball on a cookie sheet and flattened it slightly. Looking to Nightshade, they were doing the same thing, but they were also trying to shape the balls into hearts.

Why didn’t I think of that? That’s so cute!

Sleet then began shaping her balls into stars. Akira joined and shaped her dough balls into lightning bolts. After a few minutes the kids had a full sheet of cookie shapes.

“Ok, the guide says to bake them for…20 minutes. Let’s set the timer.” Akira opened the oven and carefully put the cookies in.

The kids spent the next 20 minutes chatting about random stuff - school, friends, interests. Before they knew it, the oven timer was beeping.

Twilight jumped in the air. “YESSSS COOKIE TIME!” Sleet sighed light heartedly and took the cookies out. They smelled pretty nice. Looks like they all did an Ok job on them.

Hemlock grabbed the decorations, and the kids began decorating the cookies. Sleet made glittery stars, Nightshade made rainbow hearts, and Twilight did his best.

Upon finishing, Sleet stepped back and looked at her siblings. She smiled. And then she looked at the kitchen. It was a mess. But then, she smiled again.

“Alright guys, let’s get this place cleaned up quickly before our parents get home. And after that, I’m taking a loooong nap. I expect nobody to disturb me during that time.”

Sleet knew that was unlikely, but to be honest, she didn’t mind that idea too much. She was just excited to show her parents what she and her siblings did. Even if it was almost a disaster.
