Welcome to The Space Station!
Welcome! If you’re wanting to learn more about the species, mechanics, or where to get started, this page aims to comprehensively cover most of what The Space Station has to offer!
If you’re seeking information not listed here, try checking out the FAQ and Site Guides under “shortcuts” listed on the navigation bar!
Species
The Space Station has five unique species users can create and own, all of which are equally obtainable, aside from Clayfoxes. Clayfox items are primarily obtained via prompts, activities and crafting.
Each species has their own set of traits, items, and requirements. You can learn more about each species via their anatomy guides on the Site Guide pages, their traits under the Shortcuts dropdown on the navigation bar, and purchase many of their respective items in their designated shops.
MYO Items and Add-ons
Items are what you will need to create a TSS character of your own!
Some of these items can be purchased directly from the shops. If you’re not seeing what you need there, it may be an item exclusively earned via events, prompts, and/or activities!
MYOs
Make Your Own slots are what you’ll need to create a character! Owning one will allow you to create one character of the slot’s corresponding species within the confines of the slot's rarity!
Standard MYOS
Your typical MYO slot, allowing you to create whatever you’d like within the confines of the slot’s rarity! There are three variants of these per species.
- Common MYOs, allowing for common traits without any further items
- Uncommon MYOs, allowing for an unlimited amount of uncommon traits and one rare trait without any further items
- Mythical MYOs, allowing for an unlimited amount of traits common through rare, and one mythical trait without any further items
These items do not have to be used to their maximum rarities! You may, for instance, use an uncommon MYO and only use common and uncommon traits without the included rare trait.
Self-Breed MYOS
Self breed MYOs allow you to design a character based on two (or more!) parents. Self breed slots have several varieties, some allowing for 3-4 parents, some randomizing a set traitlist, and some doing both! Each species has four variants (aside from Clayfoxes, which only have randomized and randomized poly variants) of self breed MYOs (Standard, randomized traitlists, poly, or randomized poly), and the Covered Basket allows for a breeding slot to be created from two parents of any species!
Random MYOS
MYO slots that you can open for a set traitlist that you must design within the confines of without adding or removing any! There are only one variant of these for each species.
Add-Ons
Allow you to add extra traits of the cooresponding rarity to a character! These have three variants, for Uncommon, Rare, and Mythical traits. Each add-on grants one trait per item, meaning you will need as many add-ons as you have traits of that rarity.
Some species share the same item for trait add-ons. Cirrocanius and Spacecats use essences and vouchers, while Guppymanders and Sodacats use syrups and sugars.
MYO Add-Ons
Allow you to add on additional traits that aren’t covered by the rarity of your MYO slot in your initial MYO submission. MYO Add-ons are not required if your MYO slot covers the traits of (e.g. a mythical add-on would not be required for having one mythical trait on a mythical MYO)
Character Add-Ons
Work the same as trait add-ons, but for adding traits onto pre-existing characters in a redesign rather than creating new ones!
Fabled Traits
Rather than your typical add-on, traits of the Fabled rarity come in their own indivudal items, one item existing for each trait on each species (i.e. if a trait exists on two species, both species will have their own individual item of that trait that only works on that species) These items can be used both on MYO slots and existing characters. Fabled traits are, mostly, exclusvie to the Starbit Exchange and some events.
Currency
Currency is what’s used to purchase anything within the shops! Currency is earned via prompts, activities, and art redemption, and the currency you gain depends on what you're submitting to! The primary currency earned from partaking on the site and used to purchase most basic things is Cloudcoins.
Starbits
Currency earned primarily via Port Chrysanthemum, used to purchase characters from there, or to purchase rarer items in the Starbit Exchange Shop! Further information on Port Chrysanthemum is available under Miscellaneous.
Event Currency
Currencies that are exclusive to certain events and prompts. This is anything that isn’t Cloudcoins or Starbits! These are often only available for certain periods and by completing certain, and can typically be used to purchase exclusive rewards, such as items that aren’t available in regular shops, or collectible items relating to the event!
Events
Events are typically held around the times of holidays and other notable times (e.g. Valentine’s, Pride month, Art Fight, Halloween), though some larger scale lore events are sporadically held. Lore events do not have a schedule for when they are hosted. If you missed out on a previous event, you can reread all of the event stories at any time on the Lore/Events page on the Encyclopedia!
Events generally come with their own set of limited-time tie in prompts and activities that correlate to it, along with collectables, patches, and other prizes!
Patches
Patches are awards that can be attached to either your character or profile page depending on their source! Owning any number of these does not come with an additional award outside of what they were initially awarded with, they are simply cosmetic achievements.
Prompts
Prompts are where you can create art or writing of your characters based on a basic premise to earn varying awards! There are many types of prompts, but the following are the most frequently held. All information on any active prompts can be found on the Prompts page under the Play dropdown!
Story Prompts
Story prompts are prompts that tie into events with set rewards for completion. Oftentimes, these are a chain of prompts you will need to in order.
Event Prompts
Event prompts also tie into events, but do not have to be done in a certain order. These can be anything from art prompts to scavenger hunt submissions, and sometimes don’t even include creating art! Be sure to check the description of a prompt to know what to do and how the awards will be granted! Most event prompts are repeatable.
Character prompts
Character prompts allow you to create a piece for random rewards to be rolled into the inventory of any characters depicted! These can be done any amount of times with several characters.
Currency Prompts
Currency prompts will grant event currency for the piece you create! These may scale in currency rewards for the size of the piece created, or also roll rewards into the inventories of the characters depicted.
Seasonal Prompts
Seasonal prompts are character prompts that are only available for the season they’re in! These work the same as the character prompts in events, in which you can create a piece to roll for a random set of rewards rolled into the depicted character's inventory!
Status Effects
Status effects can be gained by failing certain encounters or by chance through character prompts. A character afflicted with a negative status effect will recieved lessened (or no) loot from encounters and prompts until their status effect/s are cured. The more negative effects a character has, the less likely they will be to recieve loot. Status effects can be cured with the items in the First Aid shop.
The Lucky status effect has the opposite effect, and instead increases loot from prompts. You can afflict your characters with Lucky by crafting a Lucky Bracelet. The status effect expires after 3 uses, and will have to be re-added afterwards. Ecounters are not affected by Lucky.
Activities
Activites are small tasks you can check in on everyday, typically to earn small amount of Cloudcoins or crafting materials. Activities can be found on the activity index under the Play dropdown! These are a good way to cumulate Cloudcoins and crafting materials over time!
Crops and Gardening
Some activities award seeds to garden with. These are to be used in the Gardening activity! To garden, you will need to claim and open a photo of the area for free in the Gardening Shop, and craft the tools needed for the specific area you plan to garden in! Crops are mostly used to craft collectibles and make food for Encounters.
Encounters
Encounters allow you to use your characters to explore certain areas! Some encounters are simply flavor text, but some allow you to make a choice in a certain situation, if you win the ecnounter a drop will typically be added to your character's inventory, but losing an encounter will cause you to lose encounter energy and may afflict your character with a negative status effect. You will need to own at least one character to do Encounters, and you will need to select the character on the sidebar before being able to explore!
Foraging
Foraging allows you to send a character out to explore an area and come back with a drop! If you do not own a character, you will be able to use an NPC instead. Status effects do not affect Foraging.
Seasonals
Every three months, the site’s season changes! When this occurs, the following switch out with ones in line with the next season.
- Seasonal prompts
- Foraging locations
- Encounter locations
- Collectibles and crafting recipes
- While some crafting recipes are available by default, some have to be found via partaking in the former three activities!
Collectables
Collectables are items that can be sold for a small amount of Cloudcoins, or kept to create a Collection on your page! While some collectables can be obtained through events, and flowers can be obtained via the gardening activity, most will be obtained via crafting!
Collections
Collections are cosmetic achievements you can have on your profile page to signify owning all of the items of a certain set! If you own all of the items at once, you can create a collection under the Play dropdown and earn the achievement, along with a small amount of Cloudcoins! Once you’ve filled a collection, you will still have the items, and can sell or get rid of them however you wish. The collection will not be removed if you do not own the items anymore.
Crafting
Crafting is how you will use any materials you own to craft collectibles, food, and more! Many crafting recipes are available by default, and some rotate seasonally, but some must be earned. Any crafting recipes you earn and open will not go away after being opened.
Crafting can be done under the Play dropdown.
Food
Rather than as a collectable, food is used to grant any one character a bit of extra encounter energy to explore encounter areas with. Different types of foods grant different amount of encounter energy, but otherwise function the same.
Port Chrysanthemum
Port Chrysanthemum is where users can create designs and surrender old ones for other users to adopt for themselves via species currency!
Port Chrysanthemum submissions are the primary method of earning Starbits, which can be used to either purchase other characters from the Port, or purchase rarer items that aren’t available with Cloudcoins!
All information and rules on Port Chrysanthemum can be found on its designated page on the World dropdown. If you want to purchase items with your Starbits, the Starbit Exchange can be found in the shops under the same dropdown!
